Dr Emma Pascale Blakey (PhD RN) is passionate about involving nurses and midwives in environmental sustainability and truly believes in the collective power and potential of our professions. Emma was the first nurse Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellow, completing the fellowship at the end of 2022 and moved into an interim role alongside clinical practice. Emma is now the Lead nurse for sustainability in the Nursing Directorate at NHS England. In this role Emma leads the professional response to climate change and the nursing and midwifery delivery of the NHS net zero ambitions in partnership with colleagues. Motivated to inspire and support others and underpinned by the values of compassionate and inclusive eco-ethical leadership, Emma provides coaching and mentoring to student nurses and nursing colleagues.
Rhea Conn (RN) is the Clinical Sustainability Nurse Specialist in the Nursing Directorate at NHS England. Her passion for climate action in healthcare began in 2010 as a newly qualified nurse and has since evolved into a pioneering career focused on embedding sustainability into nursing and midwifery practice. Rhea has led impactful projects that reduce carbon, improve patient care, and promote circular economy principles. She now works nationally to support nurses and midwives in recognising sustainability as an indicator of high-quality care. Rhea is committed to shaping the future of healthcare by empowering clinicians to respond to the climate crisis as a health crisis and advocates for sustainability to be recognised as a core part of clinical leadership.
