Does anyone currently use a dialysis planning/scheduling system that easily supports incremental haemodialysis?

We’re seeing that standard scheduling models are often built around fixed 3x/week regimens, and I’m interested in whether there are tools that can flexibly accommodate more individualised treatment pathways.

Would be really helpful to hear what systems people are using and any practical experiences (good or bad).

Thanks in advance!

Hi Hattie, Y&H have a few units who are systematically implementing safe incremental HD. Happy to have a chat on teams if that helpful. I can run through what they are doing

We don't have any specific scheduling tools, though in Scotland there is appetite to explore transport scheduling technology.
Three iHD patients in 2 slots is possible with Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri and Wed/Sat BUT shared transport becomes more tricky, often works better for decremental where there is lower chance of them needing to move to 3 x weekly. We generally leave each patient in their own 3 space slot so can step up whenever it is needed and use the empty space for outliers/extra sessions or to give staff an early finish

Hello Hattie,
At Lyon Sud Hospital, we use a simple Excel spreadsheet for weekly planning, and it works very well! As we are in a teaching hospital where the dialysis centre is attached to the inpatient ward, a high degree of flexibility is essential (for incremental dialysis, acute dialysis in cases of acute kidney failure and decremental dialysis), and this system works well, even if it undoubtedly requires more time for planning.

I think SaTH (Telford & Shrewsbury) offer this to some degree, but Rachel Williamson the care coordinator is more likely to be able to answer. SaTH has 2 main units plus a few more under the trust. As I understand it spaces are tight.
