This study sheds light on a critical issue: energy insecurity in hemodialysis units. Many dialysis centers rely on an unstable electrical grid, with current diesel backup solutions being unsustainable, detrimental to patient health, and environmentally harmful.
To tackle this challenge, we propose an innovative, sustainable solution, Power-to-Hydrogen (P2H) technology, as a clean and reliable energy source to ensure uninterrupted, safe dialysis treatments. Our work reframes the energy supply issue as a vital patient safety concern and offers a practical pathway for the nephrology community to advocate for climate-resilient healthcare infrastructure.
