Sustainability in Cosmetic Dermatology: Moving Toward an Ecologically Responsible Future

A commentary exploring the impact of cosmetic dermatological procedures and products which highlights areas for more sustainable practice. 


Suggestions include ingredient selection based on low environmental impact, recyclable packaging, transitioning to renewable energy sources, and digital health tools. Problematic ingredients used in cosmetic dermatology include paraffin, silicones, acrylates and polyethylene beads and suggested alternatives are included in this paper. The use of AI is also discussed including algorithms to optimise ingredient selection, personalise treatment plans to minimise unnecessary interventions and optimise the supply chain. Examples of best practices and future prospects in sustainable cosmetic Dermatology are discussed.
