Air pollution - Life Inside Delhi's "Airpocalypse"

This is a fantastic episode of this brilliant podcast, which brings to life the health consequences of air pollution. Delhi is often cited as one of the most polluted cities in the world. This episode explores the impacts that has on its citizens' health, ranging from premature birth to a younger demographic developing lung cancer. These impacts are also compounded by social inequality, with the less well off in society less able to protect themselves or their children (for example because they cannot stay inside or off work on heavy pollution days).

The episode hears from a thoracic surgeon who describes that a child in Delhi is "a smoker from the first breath" (the numbers are striking when he correlates PM2.5 concentrations to number of cigarettes). And from mothers taking matters into their own hands by monitoring air quality themselves. But it also hears hopeful stories, such as the global implications of the first mention of air pollution on a death certificate, here in the UK (the case of Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah) and the transition to electric rickshaws.

Whether you are new to this topic, or it is something you have read a lot about, it will really bring the health impacts of air pollution to life (and possibly introduce you to a new favourite podcast too!)
